Belden Inc. has released the latest version of its Hirschmann network management software. Industrial HiVision 7.1 improves functionality with the addition of new features for PoE detection and management, as well as added support for configuring emerging technologies like TSN. Strengthening the already robust monitoring and management capabilities of previous versions, the result is improved availability and security for industrial networks.

Monitor your industrial network with industrial HiVision

In many industrial facilities, Ethernet networks are growing and changing quickly, and it is increasingly difficult to manage and secure them while fault-finding efficiently with precision.

“Network security and efficiency are both top of mind at industrial facilities worldwide,” said Mark Cooksley, product manager at Belden. “Industrial HiVision is an important tool for improving them. The latest version builds on an already rich set of security and efficiency functionalities to make it easier to control and act on factors that impact the network as a whole. These include a new Graphical History Display, which provides comprehensive graphical indicators of fault events, as well as easy configuration of time-sensitive networking (TSN) systems with MultiConfig.” Read more

You can now configure your HiOS switches and routers without Java thanks to the new version HiOS 7.0!

HiOS software offers intelligent and unique combinations of network redundancy protocols to meet the physical and application requirements your customers demand.

The result?

High network availability and data security for optimum production process efficiency.

This latest version is now easier to use with a new graphical user interface that no longer requires you to install the Java Runtime Environment (or no more needs of HiView).

  • Increases the power and performance of Hirschmann Industrial Ethernet switches
  • Focuses on redundancy technologies for maximum network availability
  • Developed specifically to meet the requirements of the automation sector

Questions/Answers

Why HTML5?

  • Java is no longer supported by major browsers
  • Java is considered a security risk
  • Java is not firewalls friendly

Why have a graphical user interface?

  • Industrial customers expect a graphical user interface
  • The command line is not acceptable for non-computer scientists
  • Even computer scientists appreciate all the information provided by a graphical user interface

What about the “Classic” firmware version (v9.0.12 being the last one)?

  • There will be no pure HTML interface – The JRE is still required
  • HiView will still be available for free

Will Java still be available for HiOS?

  • No. When HiOS version 8.0 is released, Belden will no longer support Java

Are Java version configuration files supported in HTML versions?

  • Yes. Only the interface has been modified (while integrating patches from release 6).

Is the update of Java to HTML free for existing products?

  • Yes. A simple update of the firmware is required (with a mandatory restart but not necessarily consecutive).

A new security advisory bulletin has been published on Belden’s website concerning “WPA2 Key Reinstallation Attack (KRACK)” vulnerabilities in Hirschmann BAT devices.

Please review the document link below and check if it applies to your devises.

In this document you will discover that the vulnerabilities are solved with new firmware update for OpenBAT-R/F, BAT450-F and BAT867-R. Firmware is still pending for the BAT-C.

RSPE35/37 TSN-ready

Two switch types from the RSPE product family by Hirschmann will support Time-Sensitive Networking, an open real-time Ethernet technology

St. Louis, Missouri – April 11, 2017 – Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, is to release a software update for the modularly-managed Hirschmann switch types RSPE35 and RSPE37. The update, whch will be available in the second half of this year, will enable Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) features.
As a visible sign, the devices will have a “TSN ready” logo on the front panel. In addition, older switches of both RSPE types can also be upgraded for the new real-time technology. The “TSN ready” logo is not exclusive to the RSPE35 and RSPE37: Read more

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is a novel technology that offers an entirely new level of determinism in standard IEEE 802.1 and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet networks.

TSN is a technology that combines the large bandwidth capabilities of Ethernet with the determinism of a real-time fieldbus – all based on vendor-neutral standards specified by the IEEE 802. Read more

The GREYHOUND 1040 Ethernet switch features high-performance capabilities in a modular design to evolve with your growing bandwidth demands, while ensuring network availability.

It supports up to 28 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports, including a 2.5 GE fiber port option – a first for the industry – and an expected future IEEE standard (802.3bz).

With features like hot-swappable, redundant power supplies and interchangeable media modules, you can modify, expand, and update your live network, without disrupting communications.
