The IETF RFC 2544 « describe a group of tests that can be used to determine the performance characteristics of an interconnection network». It provides a standard methodology for a direct comparison of network equipments. It is mainly used ot measure the performance of an Ethernet network, including the QoS measurement.
The RFC 2544 is not a norm but a group a rules, nevertheless commonly used in Network Reception Test and to validate Ethernet network architecture. The RFC 2544 is also useful to validate QoS on WAN link, to validate the real throughput and to calculate delay measurement over the network as well as frame loss.
In conclusion, the RFC 2544 tests allows to document the network performance on all of these attributes.
AB inter NET work can now realize with a dedicated hardware all RFC 2544 tests including :
- Throughput Test (up to 100% in fast-Ethernet or gigabit – on optical fiber or on twisted pair),
- Latency Measurement (time to go through the complete network),
- Back to Back test,
- Frame Loss (on every sizes),
- Jitter measurement and
- Bit Error Rate Test.
